SUMMARY:June Fern Foray with Peter Hope
DESCRIPTION:Group size: 15 maximum.\nTrip difficulty: The walking will be flat and easy and we’ll be going at a botanist’s pace\, so it won’t be aerobic. \nPeter Hope\, a popular foray leader known for his plant teaching skills\, will lead us around a site known for its spring wildflowers showing us the rich diversity of ferns lurking in the bedrock nooks and pavements. We’ll be admiring maidenhair spleenwort (Asplenium tri-chomanes ssp. quadrivalens)\, ebony spleenwort (A.platyneuron)\, rusty woodsia (Woodsia ilvensis)\, lowland fragile fern (Cystopteris tenuis)\, as well as the spike moss (Selaginella rupestris) and other interesting plants. \nSignup link:  https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScSHL70OnfOFah4QXhtQl1lqmL8fTr6X-SNIw6d-NIr72VmJA/viewform \nContact: Kate Kruesi\, kkruesi@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Spring Flora Foray with MaryBeth Deller

The trail is slightly uphill part of the way in\, but otherwise with gentle ups and downs along the side of the valley providing a great eye level view of the blooms and foliage!\nMaryBeth Deller will lead us on a hike in Leicester to see some impressive and diverse spring flora. The site is enriched northern hardwoods with many limey soil indicators. SUMMARY:Ever Hear of The Sandbar Willow Fairy Bee? Or the Waterleaf Nomad? Come Hear Spencer Hardy’s Talk on Native Bees!!
DESCRIPTION:Spencer Hardy has been studying bees with the Vermont Center for Ecostudies for over a decade and has traversed the state many times hunting for rare bees\, which often involves trying to find the unique plants upon which these species depend. This talk will introduce a few of his favorite charismatic microfauna\, such as the Sandbar Willow Fairy Bee and the Waterleaf Nomad\, with a discussion of more familiar groups such as the Bumble Bees and Sweat Bees. Since 2023\, Spencer has been growing and selling native plants through his business\, The Farm Upstream\, and will be using this experience to highlight the overlap between ornamental gardening and biodiversity conservation. \nFee: Free for members. \nMembers can bring a friend for $5; $10 for nonmembers.
